Large coneflower is an herbaceous perennial in the daisy family native to the south-central USA. The flower stalks rise to 7 feet bearing intense, yellow-rayed flowers with drooping rays and a 2- to 6-inch dark brown central cone. Easily grown in average, moist, well-drained soils in full sun. Tolerates light shade, heat, drought, and deer. After blooms go to seed, it attracts songbirds including goldfinches. Source: NC Extension Gardener Plant Toolbox.
